The biggest change, especially for anyone coming from the R1800, is the new mix of ink colors. But if you also want to print text and graphics on a regular basis or print on optical discs, the R1800 may be the better match for your needs. The i9900's photo speed still gives it the edge as our Editors' Choice among photo printers. Ink usage is a negative issue for a lot of Epson owners, but for me it wasn't a big deal. Using any of these papers required downloading paper profiles from the different companies' websites. I was able to produce images on glossy as well as matte and fine art papers from Epson, Red River and Hahnemuhle. The wide format allowed me to fill a majority of my orders, as some were "fine art" prints ordered in larger sizes. Be forewarned: This is not a plug-and-go printer it requires some effort on your part to make sure you get the quality prints you want.
